Zeina Khoury, the 2015 Marina Design Star, and recent graduate of Interior Design at the American University in Dubai, was awarded the prestigious three-month internship with Schwitzke Group in Dusseldorf for her creative re-interpretation of our Morritios Plate Chair, at last years competition. She is excited to begin this chapter of her career with the group in September this year, after a much-deserved break during the summer. We will be following her internship journey and sharing highlights towards the closing of this years’ competition.
Marina Design Star initiative launched its inaugural Project Remake competition last year, the first edition of this Marina Home university design challenge. It too offered senior university design students the opportunity to showcase their skills and gain entry into the world of interior design. The 2015 challenge was to reimagine and reinvent the ‘Morritios Plate Chair’ in 7 days. Design students from American University in Dubai and Canadian University Dubai rose to the challenge and brought to life their unique interpretations. The installations were assessed by another esteemed panel of judges on form, function, execution and optimum usage of the canvas product.
Last year’s ten shortlisted installations were featured at the prestigious Commercial Interior Design awards held on September 16th 2015 at The JW Marriott Marquis ballroom entrance. All the installations were on display along with their vision statements and were voted for by the guests that night. These votes contributed to the overall scoring and helped determine The 2015 Marina Design Star.
